Gays and the Gospel

12 Scriptural Reasons for Latter‐day Saints
to Support Our Gay & Lesbian Neighbors,
Their Marriages & Families

The Golden Rule

Jesus taught:

"Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them,  for this is the law and the prophets."

(Matthew 7:12; Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 14:12)

Would any of us want the government or the majority to be able to say who we can or cannot marry and what our family will look like? Would we want the majority to vote away the rights, privileges, benefits and protections our family enjoys? Is it right for us Latter-day Saints today to encourage our Government to do the exact same things to Gay and Lesbian Americans as the US government did to our polygamist ancestors - deny them the right to marry according to their religious beliefs and choice? If it was persecution to them then, isn't such treatment and legislation still persecution today? Was no empathy learned or passed on from all the persecution our ancestors endured in their efforts to live, worship, marry and raise families according to their non-traditional beliefs? Can we truly say we believe and follow Jesus Christ if we do to our Gay and Lesbian neighbors and their families what we would certainly not want done to us?

Jesus asked:

“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

(Luke 6:46)
